What an amazing Day!

It was a bright and colourful day in Portchester on Saturday,  when thousands turned out to attend the annual Gala. The procession of dazzling and colourful floats started  off at Portchester Precinct, processing down Castle Street and finishing at the  iconic Portchester Castle.

There was a host of things for the family to do at  the Gala, there were rides for the children on Trigger the Train, stalls,  refreshments, hook a duck and a record number of vintage vehicles, including  second world war trucks. In the main arena Hampshire Caledonian Band played, followed by new to the Gala Portchester Youth Theatre and Natasha Ballinger  Dance Academy, Fareham School of  Gymnastics now regular performers at Gala were excellent. Followed by the Royal  Marine Rifle Cadets marching in formation.

Once again the tug of war completed the arena  events won by 3rd Portchester Scout Leaders  on the ‘half firkin’ of ale  donated by Irving Brewery. Teigan Newman one of the organisers of the  Portchester Gala from Portchester Community Association said it had been a big  success. “It’s just a good community event” she said. “It’s about trying to encourage people to come down and take part…The procession went really well. It’s been really busy and we had  lots for the children to do. We just want to get everyone involved”. Quotes from the public  “We very much enjoyed the gala, it reminded me   that Portchester is such a lovely place to live.” “The  procession route was shorter which was fortunate  as it was so hot ”

Many families picnicked on the field as the sunshine shone at  temperatures of 26 plus!

Thank you to everyone who volunteered, took part in the parade, marshalled, contributed raffle prizes, donated to the buckets, the stall holders, the classic car owners and of course the wonderful crowds who came down to the castle enjoy Portchester Gala this Saturday. As the Gala is a celebration of our village, this event could not go ahead without the support from our wonderful and proud community, so thank you Portchester for making it another amazing gala. We cannot wait to do it all again next year!
